Award: BCO Winner 2014: Best under 2000m2

The British Council for Offices (BCO) holds annual awards to recognise good office space. This year, the judges, who visit every shortlisted project to experience the design, chose Argent's London office as the best under 2000 m2.

Western Transit Shed, London

We were appointed to develop the services for a Cat A refurbishment at the Western Transit Shed for Argent. 

Western Transit Shed offers a uniquely creative working environment, the design is a mix of heritage and robust modernity both inside and out.  The building is laid out over three floors with our project involving ground to second and generating over 15,000 sq ft of office space for Argent LLP and a marketing suite.

The mechanical systems were adapted from a base build shell and core design of a variable air volume air conditioning system.

The VAV system comprised of a dedicated variable volume air handling unit located on the roof that supplied air to a number of floor mounted VAV terminals specifically designed to meet the clients internal fit out requirements.

Each terminal supplied air into a floor plenum which in turn supplied conditioned air into the occupied space via floor mounted displacement terminals. Exhaust air was extracted at high level via return air grilles.

The AHU had high efficient heat recovery capabilities and was supplied with heating and cooling from a site wide district heating and cooling network.  The VAV system was complemented with a perimeter trench heating system also fed from a site wide district heating system.

24 hour cooling was provided to the server room and to the estates management CCTV suite which covered the kings cross estate.  Supplementary cooling was provided the marketing suite via energy efficient VRF systems and integrated with the base build system.

The building attained one of a handful of BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ standard and is linked to the site-wide district heating network.
