Project A, UK
The projects involved the reconfiguration of two primary data centres located within the south east of England, whilst maintaining full functional operation of the sites.
Utility power supply sizes were evaluated and on one of the sites a new 6MW supply was installed. The existing generator sets on both sites required upgrading, replacement and supplementing with new sets in order to provide a Tier 3 arrangement.
New chilled water systems were designed to supplement the existing ensuring that the cooling systems throughout the centres had N+1 arrangements. The project also involved the replacement of existing PDU’s within the data halls and their integration on to the new power networks. New fire protection and monitoring systems were designed and configured on a modular basis to allow for future expansion.
CO2 rack cooling was considered for both data halls and following a full detailed analysis was specified and successfully installed. Both sites had little in the way of spare ground for new plant and as such a detailed review of the space planning took place with one of the sites having its chiller plant located at roof level.
