Carfax Hotel, Bath
Client: GECO Properties UK Limited
The Carfax Hotel, on Great Pulteney Street, is a former temperance hotel and is being redeveloped by GECO Properties UK Ltd and assisted by Architect MoreySmith.
GECO Properties purchased the Carfax Hotel, a Grade I listed building consisting of three terrace townhouses, from The Salvation Army in September 2013 with the intention of creating an elegant boutique hotel that revives the listed building to its original glory.
We have been appointed to provide an initial feasibility study and develop the design of mechanical, electrical, and public health systems. The services solutions include the introduction of air conditioning to all guest bedrooms, served from central VRF condensers located in the basement vaults to the front of the building. In addition, a new gas fired boiler heating system is provided throughout the hotel and ventilation systems are provided to the new basement kitchen and guest en-suites.
The mechanical and electrical systems are carefully designed to address the onerous planning and listed building considerations and to be sensitive to the historic status and location of the building within a World Heritage site. Work on the hotel is expected to start later this year.
