Canary Wharf, Winter Gardens
Client: Canary Wharf Contractors
We were appointed by Canary Wharf Contractors to undertake the design of the mechanical, electrical and public health services for the multi function East and West Winter gardens in the heart of Canary Wharf.
The challenge for us was to create a comfortable environment using a combination of natural and mechanical ventilation systems whilst concealing all the plant and equipment in these fully glazed buildings. The mechanical systems are mixed mode made with natural ventilation and full displacement air conditioning systems.
The gardens are used as transitory spaces during the day and can be used for private receptions, seminar and have held exhibitions including world class squash and badminton tournaments.
We were appointed to provide the complex design of swinging glazed footbridges to connect developments in Canary Wharf to the underground interchanges. The brief was to provide two swinging bridges to allow pedestrian traffic from BP1 to the main development over the waterways. The waterways are still in use so the bridges had to be able to swing to allow barge and boat access.
The bridges had to accommodate full heating/cooling and are connected to the main developments fire and CCTV systems.
