10 Marlborough Street, London
Client: SONY CEE
The project for Sony Computer Entertainment was to refurbish an existing building in the heart of London, 100,000 sq ft set over 7 storeys plus basement.
Sony CEE’s new European headquarters, was an eight-floor outdated late 80s building with a separate annex behind it in Ramillies Place which was also refurbished), was taken in hand by architect MoreySmith to create a fresh, contemporary interior with a youthful atmosphere to inspire and create. The main office areas generally comprised of open plan work space together with cellular offices providing meeting or individual office space.
The driving idea for the project was linking the two buildings and covering over the space between to create a dramatic atrium with a café on the ground floor - making connections both functional and social, and tackling the building's main problem, a lack of natural light in the deep, narrow floorplate.
There is an 180-cover café on the ground floor of the atrium, where diners can enjoy the full effect of the giant space, and the linking bridge and box windows provide views from above. In addition a new shower block was provided as well as a CER Comms Room which included dedicated 24hr cooling, central UPS and associated dedicated extract system.
