We are pleased to announce that one of our recent Commercial Office projects has achieved the Refurbishment Project of the Year at this year’s CIBSE Building Performance Awards in the below £5m category.

GDM were appointed to provide the MEPH design services for the refurbishment of this 42,000 ft2 1980’s commercial office building in the centre of Woking, Surrey.

The scope of the refurbishment included the removal of the original gas fired boilers and water heaters, which were replaced by connecting to Woking’s CHP driven district heating network. The building was also disconnected from the National Grid, and took advantage of Woking’s Private Wire network.

Arrays of both Photovoltaic, and Solar Thermal panels were installed on the roof, and a rainwater harvesting system was provided.

All of the above, in conjunction with other energy efficiency measures, such as new high efficiency lighting and lighting controls for example, helped to improve the buildings EPC rating from a G rating to C, and significantly extended the buildings lifespan.
